BJP to form government in Arunachal

ITANAGAR, Apr 16: Ending speculation on proximity of state Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) with Chief Minister Kalikho Pul led People’s Party of Arunachal (PPA) government; BJP leader Tamiyo Taga on Saturday said that Arunachal Pradesh will have a BJP government. He was addressing a two-day state BJP Executive Meeting here.
“Arunachal government is going to be BJP Government. We have succeeded in toppling Tuki government” Taga said while proclaiming that BJP were instrumental in dethroning Nabam Tuki Congress government.
However, Rumgong MLA made a startling revelation that though BJP legislators want to be part of Pul’s government, BJP central leadership is opposed to it.
He further said that there should not be two opinions on joining Pul government.
“How long will BJP give outside support to Pul’s government. When our opportunities come, we should take it” added Taga.
Earlier, there was rumour doing the round that BJP was demanding Deputy Chief Ministerial post for Rumgong MLA in Kalikho Pul’s cabinet.
On being questioned by media persons why the central leaders are objecting to the legislators from joining Pul’s government, the BJP President Tapir Gao played down saying there is no such opposition from central leadership.
However, he said that there is some discipline and technical obligation that is going to be cleared very soon. Gao also confirmed that BJP government will be formed in Arunachal Pradesh without specifying the time. If the statement of both BJP stalwarts is true, Arunachal would witness another shifting of loyalty in the state’s political history.
Earlier Taga said that there should not be groupism within BJP saying that it is detrimental to party’s unity and discipline. He also batted for party discipline to be maintained and follow the tradition of seniority while giving tickets.
Pul assures support in securing international border
Reach out to the people: Governor tells Army
ITANAGAR, Apr 16: Chief Minister Kalikho Pul pledged his full cooperation to the Indian Army, to assist and provide inputs in securing the international borders.
Chief Minister was interacting with Lieutenant General Devraj Anbu, Corps Commander, 4 Corps here at Chief Minister’s Office on Saturday.
The CM emphasised on flawless army-civilian cooperation and mutual trust, which could be achieved by confidence building measures on both sides. He also stressed on JCOs and jawans to be sensitised so that civilian population are dealt humanely.
As confidence building measures, he called on the Army to play pro-active role during disasters, road communication disruptions and emergency patient evacuation – with clear standing instructions to avoid any local level confusion.
The CM assured to provide full assistance with regard to land acquisition and other clearance process. He, however, suggested the land compensation rates to be uniform across the state to avoid any public discord, and at per with rates of national highways and other compensation packages.
Reiterating defence roads to be built and maintained by the BRO, the CM informed that MoRTH has been approached for the two important highways Joram-Koloriang and Demwe-Hawai to be handed over to the BRO.
To provide basic services to the defence and paramilitary forces guarding the international border, the CM requested the Army to write to the PMO, defence minister and to the home minister to push for ‘forward area facilities’. He informed that in this regard, he had met the PM and had urged for a special package for border areas.
For recruitment to the defence services, the CM urged for a permanent recruitment centre at Tawang for the western zone and Tezu for the eastern zone of the state.
The Corps Commander said that the roads in interior pockets of Tawang district near the international border needs immediate attention. He urged the CM for maintenance of the Jangda-Thingbu road and requested for a bridge over Tawang Chu River towards Bramdungchung Gompa. (PRO, CMO)
Meanwhile, Arunachal Pradesh Governor JP Rajkhowa advised the Corps Commander 4 Corps, Lt. General D. Anbu, AVSM, YSM, SM take up more Sadbhavana projects in the state to instill better relationship between the security forces and civilian population of the frontier state.
The Governor said this during a meeting with Lt. General D. Anbu who called on him at Raj Bhavan here on Saturday. While discussing on overall security of the state, particularly the western sector of Arunachal Pradesh, which comes under 4 Corps, the Governor called for medical, ration, educational and logistic support from the army to benefit the people residing in the border areas.
He further called for Army’s quick response and assistance during the time of natural calamities, while referring to rescue of tourists in the Sela Pass area of Tawang district a few days back, who were trapped due to sudden heavy snowfall.
He also suggested for training local youths as volunteers to cope with natural calamities, like floods, earthquakes, heavy landslides due to cloud burst etc.
The Governor asked the Corps Commander to maintain road communication at all costs especially during the rainy season, which would not only facilitate the troop movement but also transportation of food items etc. for the civilians. (PRO to Governor)
State to overhaul PDS: CM
ITANAGAR, Apr 16: Chief Minister, Kalikho Pul is planning to completely overhaul the PDS in the state.
In a meeting with the officers of the Food & Civil Supply Department on Friday evening for implementation of National Food Security Act 2013 and distribution of food grains to the NFSA beneficiaries, Chief Minister said Arunachal Pradesh Civil Supplies Transport Corporation (APCSTC) will be created to carry out the works of transportation and wholesale nominee for the entire state. He asked the department to expedite the creation of APCSTC at the earliest.
The state govt has also reviewed the terms and conditions for the appointment of PDS Carriage Contractor and decided to discontinue the separate Wholesale Nominee. By doing this, govt eliminates the provision for Wholesale Nominee Commission system. From this year only, the Carriage Contractors shall be appointed and drawal, storage and distribution across the district shall be part of the duties and responsibilities of the carriage contractor.
It was decided to minimize allocation of PDS rice to rice producing districts and to add more to the districts that totally depends on supply of PDS Rice. Tawang, West Kameng, Kurung Kumey, Upper Subansiri, Dibang Valley, Anjaw, Longding and Tirap are PDS dependent districts.
It was also decided to re-introduce air-lifting of Essential Ration Commodities (ERCs) to the CPO Centres in the remote outpost in order to do away with the head load system. In this regard, CM directed the departmental authorities to send a proposal for airlifting of foodgrains to air-fed locations for further submission to Govt of India for placement of Cargo helicopter for the purpose.
The govt further decided to install Point of Sale (PoS) devices starting with the FPS of the Capital Complex and District Headquarters. To meet up the procurement, installation and operation of Point of Sales devices an estimated proposal of Rs 2.00 crore has been made for onward submission to DONER Ministry. It was decided that the remaining FPSs in districts shall also be covered in phase wise manner.
As mandated by the Govt of India, AADHAAR seeding of the NFSA beneficiary database will be done as it is being monitored on weekly basis by PMO Pragati meeting.
The govt further decided to establish FCI depots in all the district headquarters, to allocate Food Security Allowance to all the Deputy Commissioners well in advance and to give relaxation of time from one month to three months (quarterly) for payment of Food Security Allowances.
To facilitate the poor beneficiaries, govt decided to introduce DBTL for direct transfer of subsidy amount of foodgrains to the bank account of the beneficiary in the Capital Complex and urban pockets where online network connectivity and banking facilities are available after ensuring cleanliness of beneficiary data through Aadhaar and Bank Account seeding.
He asked the department to put up the proposal for creation of 9 posts of District Food & Civil Supply Officers for Kra-Daadi, Upper Siang, Siang, Lower Siang, Dibang Valley, Kurung Kumey, Anjaw, Namsai and Itanagar Capital Complex to meet up the shortage of officers in the department.
There are no sanctioned posts of DF&CSO in these districts.
It was also decided to merge the Directorate of Supply & Transport with the Directorate of Food & Civil Supplies. This has been decided to meet up the man power requirement for successful implementation of NFSA. (PRO, CMO)
Establish BJP at the grass-root: Gao tells party workers

ITANAGAR, Apr 16: After officially taking over the charge of state Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Tapir Gao, the new party President on Saturday called upon party workers and functionaries to work dedicatedly for the betterment of the party and make inroads into rural Arunachal.
He was addressing the inaugural day of two- day BJP state Executive Meeting at Hill top community Hall here. Encouraging them to work sincerely and wholeheartedly, new party President said, “Every party worker should think as if they are party president and work selflessly for the welfare of party”.
Gao who had represented Eastern Parliamentary was also National Secretary under the leadership of Nitin Gadkhari.
On being asked what differences people could expect from his leadership, State BJP President said, “I will consolidate the organisation’s set up in the state”.
He further disclosed that his first priority would be to establish BJP as a strong organisational based party starting from the grassroots. He also said that other political parties in Arunachal Pradesh should also focus at grass root to root out corruption.
“We have witnessed lots of political ups and down and change of guards as there is no ideological commitment” he further added.
The new-BJP president also urged the party workers including legislators, PRI members and Councilors to be tech-savvy to propagate Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s policies and schemes across the state so that it reaches common people. He further said that communication network in rural areas must be improved in order to make many of the schemes successful.
Assam Lok Sabha MP Ramen Deka in his address appealed to the party workers to cooperate and support the new state BJP president to make the party strong in the state. He hoped that Gao would be able to bridge the gap between the centre and state in pursuit of development.
Outgoing BJP President Tai Tagak expressed the hope that under leadership of Tapir Gao, the party would touch new height in days to come.
Tagak in his farewell speech highlighted various achievements during his tenure as party President.
Former CM Gegong Apang, Deputy Speaker of Legislative Assembly Tumke Bagra, party legislators, councilors and party functionaries from across the state were among those present during the inaugural day of two-day State Executive Meeting.
Longte festival celebrated
ITANAGAR, Apr 16: The Longte festival of Nyishi community was celebrated with much fanfare at Nyikum Niya Hall, Nirjuli on Friday. The festival was celebrated under the aegis of Capital complex Longte Celebration committee (CCLCC).
Prof. Tamo Mibang Vice-chancellor Rajiv Gandhi University and Hage Kojeen, IAS Chairman, Governing Council, Tanw Supun Dukun (Apex body of Apatani Community) joined the celebration.
Prof. Mibang expressed his gratitude to the Central Longte Committee (CLC) for inviting him to witness the important festival wherein no animal sacrifice is done unlike other tribal festivals of state. He congratulated the Nysihi community for preserving rich cultural legacy. He advocated for the promotion of Longte festival to all the districts across the state.
TSD Chairman Hage Kojeen appreciated the gesture of Central Longte Committee and Nyishi community headed by Nyishi Elite Society (NES) for carrying forward the spirit of Nyishi- Apatani Summit 2015.
It is worth mentioning here that during the NAS 2015 the social leaders of both the communities have declared to promote cultural exchange program for peaceful coexistence amongst the communities. He was accompanied by Executive members of TSD and a cultural troupe from Apatani community.
Bengia Tolum, Chairman, Central Nyokum Committee(CNC) –cum- President NES dwelt in length about the importance of Longte festival and its significance in the present day context. He said that Longte can be celebrated by all believers as no animal sacrifice is done and no priest is required for celebrations. He also informed the mammoth gathering that Central Nyishi Festival Committee will be formed soon to oversee the three important festivals of the community viz Boori- Boot Yullow, Longte and Nyokum Yullow. He also advised the younger generations of the both Nyishi and Apatani Communities to maintain the spirit of NAS 2015. He lauded the CLC for inviting learned scholars and intellectuals unlike other festivals where VVIPS are invited for monetary benefit.
Earlier, Bengia Kabnang, Chairman CCLCC informed that committee had adopted a tradition not to accept any form of donations from invitees since 2012. He informed that this year’s Festivals theme was “Promo POMO and Plant Kokam” meaning promote Pomo dress and plant Kokam/ Kakam leaves to make plastic free society.
The founder CLC members late Chera Talo, late Bengia Tarak, late Pisa Tashi and late Chello Tatup were felicitated posthumously for promoting the Longte festival, while Kameng Ringu was felicitated for promoting POMO dress.
Most striking feature of the festival were Bangro Pajok – a unique dance form wherein two men dancers replicate the dance of legendary mountains birds- Tai- Tadey. A record 142 cultural troupes from different sectors and villages across capital complex and fusion of Nysihi –Apatani cultural troops took part on the ceremonial day.
Sangken celebrated with enthusiasm and religious fervor
ITANAGAR, Apr 16: Sangken, the three-day annual water festival of the Theravada Buddhist community of the state which begun on April 13 ended on Saturday. This marks the start of Theravada Buddhist New Year.
Celebrated in the month of April every year, Sangken was observed with lots of enthusiasm and religious fervor.
It is celebrated by Tai Khampti, Tikhak Tangsa and Singpho community residing in various parts of the state particularly in Namsai and Changlang districts. Son-Fra a water ceremony of bathing Buddha statues with scented water through lungkong or water fountain, offerings to monks are some other attraction of Sangken festival.
The three-day festival saw people splash each other with water, which symbolizes the spiritual cleansing in order to begin the New Year free from impurities. The water also symbolizes fortune and purity that is said to clear all diseases, sins and bad luck.

At Tengapani (Noy Chenam), the celebration of Sangken was led by Ven. Vimalatissa, Abbot of Kongmukham (Golden Pagoda) Monastery where the delegates of World Tipitika Foundation Thailand, members of Tai Khampti Literary & Heritage Society and Namsai youths along with the villagers of nearby areas flock in huge number to join the novice and monks of Kongmukham Monastery for the Fra-loung ceremony. Fra loung ceremony is the process of installation of statues of Lord Buddha in temporary shrine brought out from its original shrine on the day of beginning of Sangken and kept for three-day until festival ends. The WTF delegates later distributed books and CDs on Tipitika and joined-in with others for Son-Fra.
At Empong, Many revelers thronged the Empong Buddhist Vihara for the three-day. Empong Monastery is famous and popular as Ti-Met (Holy place) as it is believed that the statue installed there is special.
At Itanagar- The Theravada Buddhist Society Itanagar ensured all arrangement for smooth conduct of the water festival here in capital. Many visited Theravada Monastery and participated in the festival.
The Sangken was also celebrated with traditional and religious fervor in Namsai, Tezu, Rima Puttok in Changlang, Chongkham and Phaneng in Namsai dist.
Governor reviews Disaster Management, Preparedness
ITANAGAR, Apr 16: ‘Let us hope for the best and prepare for the worst’ said JP Rajkhowa, Governor of Arunachal Pradesh while reviewing the Disaster Management and Disaster Preparedness in the State at Raj Bhavan, Itanagar on Saturday.
The Governor called for preparedness amongst the people to face any eventuality in case of a disaster. He advised the state government officials to mobilise volunteers and train the youth on disaster response procedure, starting from village level . He said that mock drills must be conducted involving students, volunteers, general public and elders in public places so that they prepare themselves how to respond during earthquakes or any natural calamities.
The Governor emphasised on safety audits be carried out along with survey of buildings and other important infrastructures.
Participating in the discussion, Chief Minister Kalikho Pul briefed the Governor on the action taken after the April 13th earthquake. He said that fund has been released to the districts for addressing any disaster in the future.
Pul informed that helicopters will be pressed in service during the time of disaster and helipads are going to be upgraded.
Speaking in the meeting, the Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein said that April 13 earthquake was an eye opener for all and people must prepare themselves for any such challenges in future. He added that elected representatives should get involved in creating awareness on disaster response procedures. The Deputy Chief Minister, who has recently returned from tour to Eastern part of the State, said that flood situation is grim in those affected areas.
Chief Secretary S Gamlin briefed the meeting on the overall Disaster Management and Disaster Preparedness. She suggested for survey of buildings by scientist of IIT Roorkee. She said that there is a need for additional human resource especially to man the State Emergency Operation Centre round the clock and emergency response vehicles for DDMOs. Dedicated State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) in the state with proper search and rescues equipments must be in place. There is a need to implement and execute the Building Bye Law in the ground, she added.
The Chief Secretary also emphasized on State Disaster Mitigation Fund for long term Disaster preparedness and mitigation activities.
Among others, Commissioner to Governor, Hage Khoda, Commissioner Disaster Management, Hage Kojeen, Addl Secretary cum Director Disaster Management, Y.W. Ziro fire accidents estimated at Rs. 18 cr. in last 13 years

ZIRO, Apr 16: Picturesque Ziro Valley is famous for its beauty and enchanting landscape coupled with rich cultural heritage and peace loving people, making it one of the most preferred tourist spots of the state.
However, frequent fire incidents in the Ziro valley and damages caused to people is distressing. According to the records of the district fire station of the last decade, a total of 110 incidences of fire occurred in Ziro Valley from 2003 to 2015, which claimed property worth more than Rs 18 crores.
The average number of fire incident is 8.5, which is very high for a small area like Ziro valley.
To contain such incidents in the valley, the department needs to strengthen manpower and modern equipments including fire tender vehicles and water filling tanks. In this regard, the state government should give special attention for fire incident prone Ziro valley by meeting these necessary requirements at the earliest and by conducting extensive awareness or sensitization programme for the general public.
Negotiating Assam Bandhs

Many people have experienced the agony of Assam Bandhs. Many travellers had to delay important meetings, family events due to Assam Bandhs. People had to cancel flight bookings and train tickets due to sudden Assam Bandhs. Some people have missed critical medical appointments due to these bandhs.
Some unlucky ones have experienced angry protests and abuse when caught travelling during bandh days. A few have gone through violent protests like stone pelting, damaged vehicles and even injuries.
Arunachalese are compelled to travel through Assam for myriad reasons. People travel to Guwahati, Dibrugarh, Jorhat, Lilabari to catch flights to mainland India where they study, work or travel for meetings. People travel to Guwahati, Dibrugarh, Tinsukia, Tezpur, Lakhimpur, Silapathar, Jorhat etc for better medical care and marketing. Even to travel from one district to another district, Arunachalese have to travel through Assam. The state capital Itanagar can be reached from many districts only through Assam.
Bandhs are very frequent in Assam. Assam bandhs are called by almost anyone...that also without any notice. Bandhs are called by various tribes/castes, political organisations and various student unions. There are district bandhs, area bandhs and state bandhs. Often a mistaken traveller finds small groups of 10-15 people enforcing bandhs on the roads!
In order to continue our normal lives, we need to find alternate means to bypass these irritating bandhs.
Railways generally continue to ply during bandhs. Presently only Naharlagun and Bhalukpong in Arunachal are connected by rail. We need to expedite construction of railway line to Pasighat. We also need to connect other places like Tezu, Namsai, Changlang, Likabali etc with railway lines. There is also a need to increase the frequency of trains from existing railway stations in Arunachal.
We need to expedite completion of airfields at Pasighat, Ziro, Aalo, Tezu. There are already plans to construct a Greenfield airport near Itanagar. We also need to start operations of civil flights from these airports.
A highway along the foothills of Arunachal may also be considered. This will allow people to travel to the capital/ district headquarters for work or to board flight/railways. This road should take priority over the road planned along the border!!
Last but not the least is to increase people to people meets/ contact programmes/ sports/ cultural exchanges to enhance peaceful coexistence and harmony with Assam. It is easily understandable that it would be difficult for Arunachal to sustain without support from Assam. People to people contacts may not prevent bandhs, but cordial and harmonious relations would at least prevent violent abuses/ actions to Arunachalese caught in these bandhs.
Implementation of the steps suggested would allow Arunachalese to travel to towns of Assam and mainland India for work, study, medical care or marketing.
Tani and Kaku adjudged Mr & Mrs Longte 2016
ITANAGAR, Apr 16: Bengia Tani and Bengia Kaku were adjudged as Mr & Mrs Longte 2016 respectively, in a fashion-show-cum-cultural night, organised as part of a week-long Longte celebration held at General ground, Koloriang on Apr 15 last.
Daporijo MLA, Dikto Yekar gave away cash prizes along with trophy and certificate including Rs. 1.5 lacs to the winners and Rs. 60,000 and 40,000 to the first and second runner up respectively while, Rs. 10,000 for winners of other categories.
In all, 32 participants were selected from different circle headquarters of Kurung Kumey district for the competition.
Colourful cultural performances by local artist and from neighbouring state were also held on the occasion.
IGRMS gets another Arunachalee house
ITANAGAR, Apr 16: A newly constructed house of Sherdukpen tribe of Arunachal Pradesh has been included at Himalayan Village Open Air Exhibition in Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya.
The house was inaugurated by MD, MP Madhya Pradesh State Tourism Development Corporation Hari Ranjan Rao and Director, IGRMS Prof Sarit Kumar Chaudhuri in presence of artisans from Sherdukpen tribe.
The house has been constructed under the leadership of Dr. Rinchin Megejee, with artisans from Thongre village of West Kameng dist.
For construction of the Pangthing yam, the material was procured from Thongre while nine people from the village set up camp at IGRMS for thirty days to construct the house. The house has a basement, made of stone while the second layer is made of wood and the third layer of bamboo. The house measures 26 feet in length and 16 feet in breadth.
Massive plantation drive conducted at Mikong

RUKSIN, Apr 16: With an aim to protect the natural forests and biodiversity in Mirem-Mikong area, adjacent to Gutin Reserve Forest in East Siang district, ‘Kamji Karbat Rumne Group (KKRG)’, a Mikong based NGO on Saturday launched a massive plantation drive with active participation of the territorial forest staffs and local villagers.
The KKRG conducted a day-long awareness meeting on ‘Protection of Forest & Environment’ at Mikong village and made the local villagers aware on importance of plant and animals for maintaining ecological balance.
The organizers along with the forester staffs and local villagers planted 100 saplings of various kinds including fruit plants, shade-tree, timber-yielding, medicinal and ornamental plants in and around Mikong Upper Primary School, playground, Health Sub-centre premise and roadsides.
Addressing the meet as resource person, Range Forest Officer of Ruksin, Y Potom said the man-made environmental degradation was causing ecological catastrophe in the region, which is affecting food production. Citing example of ‘food chain’ in the ecosystem, he urged the local people to stop indiscriminate cutting of trees, fishing and killing of wild. Lauding the efforts initiated by KKRG, the range officer assured all possible helps to carry forward their movement. He also suggested the local people to take proper care of the planted saplings and ensure their survival.
KKRG General Secretary Talom Ejing said that they would continue the effort throughout the year as they are receiving support and necessary technical feedback from forest and wildlife department.
The NGO activists with their motto- No Plant, No Life, are mobilizing the common people to adopt plantation activity and save the ecosystems of the area for future generations.
Earlier welcoming the participants, Nalo Jerang said the decision to launch massive plantation drive in the area was adopted in a village meeting held during January this year.
He pleaded the Gaon Burahs to deal with deforestation and wild hunting cases with firm hand and impose heavy penalty against any violation.
Dolo calls for judicious use of funds
Seppa, Apr 16: Dy. Chief Minister Kameng Dolo while addressing the govt employees and PRI members called for judicious use of funds for effective implementation of various RD programmes.
He said this after inaugurating a Panchayat Building at Seppa on Saturday.
Dolo asked them to prepare genuine and need based schemes and implement it according to the DPR. He said that the state govt is planning to allocate fund on a monthly basis under MGNREGA.
He further appealed to the people of the district to take up agriculture and its allied sectors in a big way for self reliance rather than depend on contract works.
He further said that drug peddlers and other offenders should be dealt with iron hand as per appropriate sections of the law.
Parliamentary Secretary (power) Tapuk Taku urged the PRI members to maintain their respective offices with regular meeting pertaining to the issues of their respective jurisdiction.
DC Deepak Shinde directed the DRDA functionaries to implement various Rural Development programmes successfully. He asked the govt staffs to improve and maintain quality of works and also to stay at their posting place.
ZPM Meyuk Cheda submitted one point memorandum for fund for panchayat Bhawan at Seppa, which the DCM assured to provide.

IFCSAP seeks Art of Living support
ITANAGAR, Apr 16: A team of Indigenous Faith & Cultural Society of Arunachal Pradesh (IFCSAP) led by its president Dr. Tacho Ligu called on Sri Sri Ravi Shankar at his Art of Living Ashram at Jollang on Saturday.
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar informed the team that Art of Living is working on preservation, promotion & protection of indigenous faith and culture as well as promoting rural development through Sustainable Development Projects.
The Art of Living Arunachal Pradesh unit has assured full support in promotion, preservation and protection of the Indigenous Faith and Culture, informed a release from IFCSAP.
The team discussed with Sri Sri Ravi Shankar on possible establishment of de-addiction centre, schools for economically backward section of the society, opening of vocational training centre for indigenous youth and women of rural areas.

Blood donation camp organized
ITANAGAR, Apr 16: Altogether 20 youths participated in a blood donation camp organized by All Papu Valley Youth Welfare Association at R K Mission hospital here on Saturday. The theme was “give the gift of life, donate blood”.
Lauding the initiative of the camp, Blood Bank Officer L L Chaudhury and Medical Officer of Tomo Riba State Hospital, Naharlagun, Dr Radhe Natung spoke on the importance of blood in human life. They encouraged the youths to donate blood regularly.
AR dedicate community hall for villagers
JAIRAMPUR, Apr 16: The Jairampur based 42 Assam Rifles under the Military Civic Action Programme built and handed over a community hall at Machum village to the villagers on Apr 11. This was in order to bridge the gap with the rural folks by the Assam Rifles Dao Division which has been carrying out various socio-economic welfare activities in the rural region of Changlang district.
The battalion officer said that his battalion was committed not only in maintaining peace and tranquility but also to help out the rural regions. He also advised the villagers to utilize the community hall properly and take care of it as it has become asset of the village. The villagers of Machum including its GB and PRI members thanked the Assam Rifles for the gesture.
IA builds School library
TAWANG, Apr 16: The newly constructed library building of Govt Secondary School, Lhou was inaugurated by Commanding Officer, 11 Sikh, Colonel Pravin Kumar in the presence of Gaon Burah cum School Management Committee members on Saturday.
The construction of library building including its painting and electric fitting work was taken up by the Indian Army under the 'Operation Samaritan'. Book shelves have also been provided under the operation. DIPRO
Plantation programme
RUKSIN, Apr 16: A day long mass Mesua Ferrea (Nahor) plantation programme has been conducted at Ngorlung Village by Ngorlung Discussion Forum (NDF) on Saturday. Around 200 Mesua Ferrea saplings in and around Ngorlung village was planted by the NDF members.
Hundreds attend ABCC meet
ITANAGAR, Apr 16: Over 200 believers attended a three-day long 8th annual general meeting of Arunachal Pradesh Baptist Church Council (ABCC) which began here at Baptist Church, Mirbuk in Pasighat on Saturday.
CBCNEI General Secretary, Rev. Dr Solomon Rongpi, ABCC General Secretary Toko Kach and TBCA Executive Secretary Wanglong Simai were also present in the meeting as speakers.
West Kameng football tourney
ITANAGAR, Apr 16: The inaugural match of a West Kameng District Olympic Association organized football tournament between Rupa Town Club and West Kameng Football Club resulted in a draw with each team scoring a goal each at Buddha Stadium, Bomdila on Saturday.
Shyam Tamang of West Kameng FC and Tsering Dorjee Wangja of Rupa Town Club scored 1 goal each.
Four teams namely; Rupa Town Club, West Kameng Football Club, Bollero Football Club and Dirang football club are taking part in the tournament.
